Abstract

This study addresses the role of nursing in the initial care of polytraumatized patients in emergency and urgent care services. The research was developed through a bibliographic review, based on the analysis of publications related to trauma care and nursing assistance in this context. The study made it possible to understand that nursing participates in patient care from the moment of admission to the emergency service, monitoring the clinical condition and assisting in the necessary interventions. It was observed that initial assessment, patient monitoring, and organization of care are important parts of this process. It was also verified that trauma care protocols contribute to guiding the actions of the healthcare team. Thus, nursing plays a relevant role in the care of polytraumatized patients.
