Abstract

Cultural diversity in higher education institutions offers both opportunities and challenges for student interaction. Differences in cultural values, language, and social norms often lead to stereotypes that hinder effective communication and academic collaboration. This study aims to analyze the role of intercultural communication in reducing stereotypes among university students. The research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review of national and international journal articles published between 2020 and 2025. Data were collected through document analysis and examined using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that effective intercultural communication—characterized by openness, empathy, cultural awareness, and mindful interaction—plays a significant role in reducing stereotypes and fostering mutual understanding among students. Moreover, structured intercultural interactions within academic settings contribute to the development of tolerance and inclusivity. This study concludes that strengthening intercultural communication practices is essential for creating a harmonious and inclusive university environment.
