Abstract

This study investigates the causes, impacts, and mitigation strategies for labor shortages in the construction industry in Kaduna State. Data collection was conducted using structured questionnaires targeting professionals, including quantity surveyors and project managers, with a representative sample of 94 respondents. The results indicate that demographic changes, low wages, and poor working conditions are the most significant factors contributing to labor shortages. The impact of labor shortages includes project delays, reputational damage, reduced work quality, and decreased profitability. Strategies such as adopting technology, implementing training programs, attracting underrepresented groups, improving working conditions, and increasing wages were ranked as effective measures to mitigate these challenges. The findings provide valuable insights for stakeholders aiming to address workforce challenges in the construction sector effectively.
