Abstract

This study examines the role of Management Information Systems (MIS) in enhancing managerial decision-making across operational, tactical, and strategic levels. Using a mixed-method approach combining quantitative surveys (n=120) and semi-structured interviews from organizations in finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and other sectors, the research reveals that MIS significantly improves decision accuracy (82% agreement), timeliness (88%), operational efficiency (84%), strategic planning (79%), and inter-departmental communication (76%). Regression analysis confirms that MIS usage intensity, user competence, data quality, and system integration collectively explain 58% of variance in decision quality (R²=0.58). Despite these benefits, effectiveness remains constrained by inadequate user training (63%), poor data quality (58%), legacy system integration issues (52%), low trust in outputs (41%), and resistance to change (37%). Thematic analysis highlights the critical interplay of technological capability and organizational readiness, including leadership support and data-driven culture. The findings underscore that MIS transforms decision-making from intuition-based to evidence-based only when socio-technical factors are aligned. Organizations must therefore invest beyond technology in continuous training, robust data governance, system modernization, and cultural change to fully realize MIS potential as a strategic asset.
