ACADOPRENEURSHIP AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AS CATALYSTS FOR SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY
Abstract
The increasing complexity of global economic, social, and environmental challenges has accelerated the shift toward knowledge-based and innovation-driven development models. Within this context, academic institutions are increasingly expected to extend their traditional roles of teaching and research to include active participation in entrepreneurship and national development. This paper examines acadopreneurship as a strategic framework for embedding entrepreneurial practices within academia and leveraging emerging technologies to promote sustainable national development. Acadopreneurship is conceptualized as a mechanism through which universities and research institutions generate, transfer, and commercialize knowledge in ways that produce measurable economic, social, and environmental benefits. The paper provides an in-depth discussion of how emerging technologies particularly artificial intelligence, biotechnology, renewable energy technologies, and blockchain enhance acadopreneurial activities by enabling data-driven innovation, scalable solutions, and efficient service delivery across critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, energy, environmental management, and governance. It further explores the contributions of acadopreneurship to job creation, skills development, technological self-reliance, and national competitiveness in the global knowledge economy. In addition, the paper critically examines key challenges limiting the effective implementation of acadopreneurship, including inadequate funding, weak entrepreneurial culture within academic institutions, intellectual property and commercialization constraints, limited academia–industry collaboration, and insufficient policy and regulatory support. To address these challenges, the paper proposes strategic measures centered on supportive policy frameworks, targeted incentives, capacity building in emerging technologies, and strengthened collaboration between academia, industry, and government. The paper concludes that sustained investment in acadopreneurship, combined with the strategic adoption of emerging technologies, is essential for building resilient, innovation-driven, and sustainable national economies.
