Abstract

Reading as a condition for personal growth is a reflection on a skill acquired by human beings since their first years of schooling that offers them multiple benefits. The objective is to identify the arguments that support its importance, based on this, to raise awareness and awaken in people the interest in dedicating at least a short period of time to reading. The importance of the research lies in developing spaces for awareness in novice readers so that they assume this fascinating experience with responsibility, and in those who have practicality, so they enjoy the wonderful world of reading. The methodology that has been assumed has to do with a reflexive analysis of the practice of reading in children, youth, and adults; based on this, a theoretical contrast was made with reliable bibliography selected from different indexed journals. The results reached in the present work have to do with the conception of reading as a voluntary activity and of free choice by the reader, without pressure, whether for work reasons or academic compliance; the benefits provided by reading occur in the communicative field, social relations, the informative field, among others; finally, reading has to do with personal growth insofar as one reads and insofar as one is informed, regardless of economic issues or social status.
