Autonomous Decision Systems in Value-Driven Care Models
Abstract
Value-based healthcare aims to reduce costs while improving quality and outcomes by delivering care that is patient-centric, evidence-based, cost-effective, and efficient. Autonomy is a critical component of these objectives, as systems with greater decision-making capabilities can support clinicians and patients by recommending evidence-based actions. Several healthcare organizations have produced guidelines detailing how clinical decision support (CDS) systems can improve aspects of care delivery, but a single comprehensive assessment that places these principles within the context of value-driven care is lacking.
