Constructing (Social) Constructivism: An Ontological Discussion with Special Attention to Storm and Latour
Abstract
This article explores the constructivist ontologies of Jason Ānanda Josephson Storm and Bruno Latour, contrasting Storm’s separation between the social and the nonsocial with Latour’s flat ontology that erases this distinction. Despite these ontological differences, the article shows that both theorists propose similar analytical frameworks. Engaging also with key figures in constructivism, such as Paul Feyerabend and Nelson Goodman, the article highlights how Storm’s and Latour’s positions contribute to broader debates on constructivism and offers insights into how ontologies shape the study of the social world.
