Role of Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy in the Diagnosis of Solid Abdominal Mass Lesions
Abstract
Background: Solid abdominal mass lesions represent a diagnostic challenge due to diverse etiologies and overlapping imaging features, necessitating histopathological confirmation through minimally invasive ultrasound-guided biopsy. Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy, safety, and efficacy of ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy in identifying the nature of solid abdominal masses among patients at a tertiary care hospital. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Radiology & Imaging, 250-bed General Hospital, Kushtia and Kushtia Medical College Hospital, Kushtia from September 2023 to October 2025. A total of 104 patients (mean age 49.6 ± 13.4 years) underwent ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy using 18G automated needles. Variables analyzed included lesion site, size, echotexture, histopathology, procedural complications, and diagnostic yield. Statistical analysis utilized SPSS v26.0 with p
