Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the importance of using metacognitive strategies to improve the written production of academic texts in university students, as a way to understand their development in the educational field. A documentary study was conducted based on a bibliographic review of sources indexed in Scopus, Redalyc, Dialnet, Google Scholar, and Scielo. Recent publications no older than five years were considered. Out of a total of 110 reviewed works, 12 studies directly related to the investigated topic were selected. The results show agreements among the authors on the relevance of metacognitive strategies to strengthen the production of written academic texts and to support the understanding and interpretation of various linguistic and literary contexts. It is concluded that the application of these strategies positively contributes to the proper development of writing skills, improves academic performance, and promotes meaningful learning in the current university context.
