Abstract

This research was conducted to evaluate mechanical risks and their impact on the safety of workers in an industrial workshop located in the parish of La Esperanza, Quevedo, due to the high accident rate and the poor implementation of control measures in such environments. The objective was to identify, assess, and propose strategies for the prevention of mechanical risks using internationally recognized methodologies. The procedure involved applying the GTC-45 matrix and the William Fine method to evaluate 12 main machines, complemented by direct observation, interviews, and documentary analysis of accident risks. The results showed that all identified mechanical risks were classified as critical, with an almost perfect correlation between both methodologies, and that none of the machines met the minimum safety compliance threshold (80%). The accident frequency index was 481 per million hours worked, exceeding the national average by more than three times.
