Abstract

Wheat is an important field crop being grown throughout world. The field trial was conducted at an experimental area, of Southern Wheat Research Station Tando Jam to observe the interrelationship of yield and its component in spring wheat in randomized complete block design using three replications. The varieties included were TD-1, Kiran-95, Anmol-91, Benazir, Hamal, Sonhari, Amber and Sundar. Data were recorded for plant height (cm), number of tillers plant -1, grain yield plant -1 (g), biological yield plant-1 (g) and harvest index (%). The results regarding the analysis of variance for yield and its associated traits revealed that genotypes are highly significant at 0.01 level of probability for all the traits studied. The mean performance for yield and its components showed that variety TD-1 produced short statured plants (52.40cm) also give highest tillers plant-1 (12.69) and grain yield plant-1. The maximum biological yield was produced by the variety Sonhari (58.18g). The maximum harvest index was recorded for the variety Sundar (53.42). Grain yield plant-1 had highly significant positive association with biological yield (0.812**), while significant but negative with plant height (-0.669**). Regression co-efficient exhibited that the highest variation in grain yield plant-1 was due to the variation in biological yield plant-1 followed by plant height. Furthermore, a selection of genotypes could be made on higher biological yield plant-1 with dwarf plant height. It was concluded that variety TD-1 produced maximum tillers/plant higher seed index and grain yield /plant and variety sunder produced higher harvest index. Maximum biological yield is shown by kiran-95, Hamal, Anmol-91 and Sonhari respectively.
