Abstract

The notion of semi-unital semi-monoidal category which is a generalization of the classical notion of monoidal category was defined a couple of years ago using the so called "Takahashi tensor product ⊠".So far, there is only one example of it in the literature and it is complex. In this work, we use the recently defined multiplicative tensor product of matrix factorizations denoted by ⊗ to give a simpler example of this notion thereby proving that it is not an isolated concept. In fact, if M F (1) denotes the category of matrix factorizations of the constant power series 1, we define the concept of one-step connected category and prove that there is a one-step connected subcategory of (M F (1), ⊗) which is semi-unital semi-monoidal.
