Individual vs collective action : dancing in the same storm
Abstract
I’m wary of how easily talk of “individual resilience” turns into a moral shortcut — a way of praising autonomy while ignoring the conditions that make it possible. Experience, especially in institutions, teaches a harder truth: resilience is not developed in isolation, it depends on support and shared responsibility. We may face the same storm, but we do not do so on equal footing. That’s where the language of “snowflakes” does its work — mocking dependence while quietly relying on it. Solidarity isn’t sentimental; it’s structural. What looks fragile alone often proves durable together.
