Abstract

Growing demand for postsecondary education and continuous reskilling has increased interest in stackable credentials, in which each short-term credential builds toward a higher-level credential. Drawing from a mixed-methods evidence base of prior research, this paper presents practices that postsecondary institutions and states can use to design and implement stackable credentials, with case studies illustrating each practice.
