Abstract

A b s t r a c t.The article presents a concept, idea, or vision for the development of post-mining areas in the Konin region following lignite mining, which provides urban and environmental solutions and shows the possibilities of implementing various types of projects and initiatives that may appear in the future in connection with the end of deposit mining in this region. It is evident that the areas subjected to reclamation and revitalization were partially sold or transferred to local governments by mining companies. However, they should serve not only their owners, but also the local community. It should be emphasized that the possibilities of indicating the direction of reclamation and the resulting method of land development are currently highly limited, because most of the post-mining areas have already been reclaimed. In principle, there is the possibility of discussing the implementation of specific modifications to the Konin region's operational framework. The paper presents briefly an approach to the reclamation of post-mining areas, taking into account the present-day state of the environment, social needs resulting from the economic changes related to job losses in the mining industry, for the maintenance of the condition of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in the vicinity of the area, and adaptation to predicted climate changes.
