Abstract

A b s t r a c t.The Polish Geological Institute has been cooperating with African countries for over 20 years.Initially, these were bilateral projects, financed mainly from the Polish aid programme funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, and later international programmes financed by the European Union. In the current, third phase of the PanAfGeo+ Project, PGI-NRI is participating in several projects benefiting Uganda and Rwanda. Two important events took place in November and December 2025.The first was the Polish-Ugandan Mining Conference organised by the Polish Embassy in Nairobi, the PAIH Branch in Nairobi and PGI-NRI, focused strictly on the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of mining. The second was a conference launching cooperation between PGI-NRI and the Rwanda Mining, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) as part of the PanAfGeo+ Project, Country Window Rwanda, led by PGI-NRI.The tasks identified for implementation include seismic monitoring, geohazard monitoring, and the inventory and valorisation of post-mining waste. Both conferences showed that Poland has great potential in the field of mineral resource mining, but is not using these opportunities. However, the implementation of so-called soft projects by PGI-NRI may contribute to the development of Poland's presence on the African continent.
