Hermeneutyka w granicach empirii geologicznej – odpowiedź na polemikę K. Jewuły
Abstract
A b s t r a c t.This reply addresses Karol Jewu³a's polemic Geofantasy and the illusion of objectivity... (2025) and clarifies the epistemological and methodological status of geology. While acknowledging the hermeneutic dimension of geological reasoning emphasised by Jewu³a, the author argues that geology remains an empirical and historical science. Its interpretations are grounded in field observation, verification, and natural laws. The notions of geofantasy and illusion of objectivity are discussed as humanistic metaphors rather than scientific categories.Drawing on Frodeman's concept of hermeneutics in the field, the author shows that interpretation in geology is constrained by empirical evidence and methodological rigour. Thus, rather than replacing empiricism, hermeneutics complements it as a reflective framework for understanding geological practice.
