Ambientes y ciudades: un balance historiográfico del último medio siglo en Chile urbano
Abstract
Objective/Context: This article analyzes the relationship between environmental history and urban history in Chile, asking how historians have approached this connection over the last half century, which marks its origin and development. Placing the research within the Latin American context, the aim is to explore the main themes, the methodologies used, and the areas open for future research, highlighting the prominence of the capital city, Santiago. Methodology: The study is presented in two parts: the first focuses on the beginnings of collaborative work between environmental history and urban history, detailing the archives consulted and the approaches to them; the second centers on the more recent link between the history of technology and environmental history, as well as on a topic increasingly researched: earthquakes and natural disasters from a historical perspective. Originality: Although this is an emerging field, a historiographical balance helps provide a more comprehensive overview of methodological and heuristic issues debated within a broader temporal framework. Conclusions: With new perspectives, academic production has evolved from an exploratory approach, which introduced the first connections, to one that integrates social and cultural history, while also considering urban history as a key subdiscipline for studying spatial configuration.
