Trayectorias imbricadas: subjetivación política, luchas de migración y ciudadanías territoriales en Chile
Abstract
This article explores the intersections between migratory trajectories, processes of political subjectivation, and forms of involvement in migration struggles in Chile. Its aim is to capture the heterogeneous ways in which migrants become politically constituted through these struggles, while also considering the specific imprint that foreignness leaves on this process. It further reflects on how these intersections contribute to reshaping citizenship in Chile as an emerging destination within SouthSouth migration flows. The analysis draws on discourse analysis of a corpus of life histories from 45 migrants engaged in social and political organisations across three regions of Chile (Tarapacá, Antofagasta, and the Metropolitan Region), through which four main types of intersection are identified. Particular attention is given to trajectories of political subjectivation that originate in involvement in migration struggles in the country of residence, especially those driven by demands for the right to housing and to the city. The article argues that such struggles give rise to territorialised acts of citizenship, where new forms of political and civic subjectivation emerge alongside alternative ways of constructing sociopolitical ties and relating to the state.
