Abstract

This article examines how artificial intelligence (AI) is being applied in community and primary care nursing. It differentiates between the organisational use of AI and the growing availability of chatbots for everyday use by individual healthcare professionals. Areas where AI is used in nursing practice include population and patient management, wound care and voice recognition software. The article also considers the potential impact on the nursing job market as AI automation in healthcare systems expands. The author also provides an example of how a patient’s healthcare journey can be affected by AI tools and ends with suggestions for nurses on how to become AI-ready.
