Prompted Ecological Drawing Versus Thematic Free Expression in Montessori Children Aged 5–15: A Comparative Study Across Prompted and Unprompted Conditions - DataSet
Abstract
BlueBlocks_DataSet_Combined_HarvardDataverse_HD_2026_01_Public.xlsx - This dataset contains harmonized coding data from 279 drawings produced across two independent studies conducted at Blue Blocks Montessori School, Hyderabad, Telangana, India in 2026: the Biophilia Pilot Study (81 drawings, 81 students, prompted condition) and the Drone and Art Day study (198 drawings, 93 students, unprompted condition). Students ranged in age from 5 to 15 years. Each row represents one drawing and includes student identity variables (anonymized code, age, age group, gender), a prompted/unprompted condition flag, six harmonized binary visual element variables (sky, animals, plants/trees, water, sun/moon, human figures), a shared element score (0–6), study-specific Biophilia variables (biophilic element counts, observer impression ratings, environment type classifications), and study-specific Drone and Art Day variables (Nature vs. Supra-Nature classification, nine supra-nature element types, color palette dominance). A paired_student flag (0/1) identifies the 53 students who appear in both studies. Inter-rater reliability was perfect across both studies (Cohen's Kappa = 1.0). This file supports between-group comparative analysis of visual content across prompted and unprompted drawing conditions. BlueBlocks_DataSet_Combined_HarvardDataverse_HD_2026_02_Public.xlsx - This dataset contains the within-subject paired subset of the combined drawing data, restricted to the 53 students who participated in both the Biophilia Pilot Study and the Drone and Art Day study. It comprises 163 rows across three data sheets: Paired Combined (163 rows, both studies together), Biophilia Paired (53 rows, prompted condition), and Drone Paired (110 rows, unprompted condition; 22 students contributed 1 drawing, 12 contributed 2, 14 contributed 3, 4 contributed 4, and 1 contributed 6). All variables are identical to HD_2026_01. This file is designed for within-subject analysis comparing how the same children drew differently under prompted versus unprompted conditions, and should be used alongside HD_2026_01 for the full between-group analysis.
