AQQD – Annotated Quranic Qira’at Dataset
Abstract
AQQD (Annotated Quranic Qira’at Dataset) is an open research dataset of Quranic recitations annotated across multiple canonical Qira’at styles. The dataset is designed to support research in machine learning, audio and speech processing, computational linguistics, and Quranic studies. Version 1 of the dataset includes 23,111 audio files from 308 reciters, covering 70 selected Quranic Surahs segmented into representative verses (Ayahs), with structured metadata linking each recording to its reciter, Qira’at style, Surah, Ayah, and clip index. Version 2 introduces significant updates and improvements: - Addition of a new reciter dataset (R000) sourced from Taibah University (Madinah, Saudi Arabia), consisting of 1,072 audio files - All recordings in R000 are performed by a single reciter, enabling controlled comparison across Qira’at styles by minimizing speaker variability - Extension of Qira’at coverage to include Yaʿqūb al-Ḥaḍramī (Style 9) and Khalaf al-ʿĀshir (Style 10) - Correction of an identified file: R209_S1_Surah_085_Aya21-22.wav In some cases, differences between Qira’at occur at the level of specific words or phrases rather than entire verses. Accordingly, certain recordings include only the differing segment rather than a full Ayah recitation, enabling fine-grained phonetic and linguistic analysis. The dataset is distributed as a multi-part ZIP archive and is accompanied by a metadata file (AQQD_details.xlsx) and documentation (README_FIRST.txt). Users are advised to consult these resources for dataset structure, extraction, and usage instructions.
