STIX Solar Flare Light Curve Dataset (M–X Class, 2021–2025)
Abstract
This dataset contains solar flare light curves derived from observations by the Spectrometer Telescope for Imaging X-rays (STIX) on Solar Orbiter. The data are based on the STIX flare list and cover events observed between 14 April 2021 and 28 February 2025. The dataset is restricted to flares with an estimated GOES class of M or X. For each event, quick-look light curves are provided in two energy bands: 4–10 keV (low-energy) and 15–25 keV (high-energy). To ensure data quality and consistency, the following selection criteria were applied: In the low-energy band, events affected by the attenuator were excluded by requiring the peak flux to be < 0.8 × 105 counts s−1; no filtering was required for the high-energy band. The most prominent peak in each light curve must exceed 5 standard deviations above the background level, computed from the final 10% of the time series. Light curves without a clearly defined rise phase were excluded. After applying these criteria, the dataset contains 597 events in the low-energy band and 675 events in the high-energy band.
