Assessment Of Mental Health Status And Its Impact On Human Well-Being
Abstract
Mental health is a key determinant of human well-being, influencing emotional balance, social relationships, productivity, and quality of life. College students today face increasing academic pressure, competition, lifestyle transitions, and post-pandemic stressors, which heighten the risk of depression, anxiety, and psychological distress. This project aims to assess the mental health status of students aged 18–25 and examine its impact on overall well-being. A survey-based design using standardized psychometric tools, including the DASS-21 scale, is employed to evaluate levels of depression, anxiety, and stress, while also exploring awareness, coping strategies, and barriers to seeking help. The study highlights persistent gaps in mental-health knowledge, limited access to services, and the role of stigma, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas. Poor mental health was found to negatively influence academic performance, interpersonal relationships, lifestyle patterns, and long-term health outcomes. The findings emphasize the need for mental-health promotion, early screening, and accessible support systems on college campuses. Strengthening awareness, resilience, and coping mechanisms can contribute to improved psychological well-being and healthier communities. Overall, the study highlights mental health as a critical public-health priority that requires a overall educational, social, and policy-level interventions.
