Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the clinical impact of Court-type traditional massage compared with Swedish massage on hypertension management. The research tools include: (1) experimental tools; Court-Type traditional massage and Swedish massage, and (2) data collection tools; questionnaires on general information and medical history, records of blood pressure and pulse rate, health behavior assessments based on the 3A 2S model, stress assessments (ST-5), and pain assessments using the numerical rating scale (NRS). Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, a two-way repeated measures ANOVA, an independent-samples t-test or Mann-Whitney U test for between-group comparisons and a paired-samples t-test or Wilcoxon signed-rank test for within-group comparisons. Simple random sampling was employed to select 64 participants for a randomized controlled trial, which was subsequently divided into two groups of 32 participants each. Each group received either Court-Type traditional massage or Swedish massage for 30 minutes once a week for four consecutive weeks. Blood pressure and pulse rate were measured before the massage at week 0 (Day 0) as baseline data and compared to measurements taken before the massage in week 1 (Day 7), 2 (Day 14), and 3 (Day 21). Follow-up measurements without massage were taken in week 4 (Day 28), 5 (Day 35), 6 (Day 42), and 7 (Day 49). Health behavior assessments based on the 3A 2S model, stress assessments (ST-5), and pain assessments using NRS were conducted at week 0 (Day 0), 3 (Day 21), and 7 (Day 49). The study found that both Court-Type traditional massage and Swedish massage significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate, stress, and pain with no significant differences between the two methods after four consecutive massage sessions from week 0-3 and after three weeks without massage from week 4-6. This contrasts with the pilot study findings, where Swedish massage reduced systolic blood pressure more than Court-Type traditional massage after three sessions. At week 7, Swedish massage significantly reduced systolic blood pressure more than Court-Type traditional massage (p
