In the name of nature: Activists, experts, and the law
Abstract
This ‘dossier’ aims to approach the judicialisation of nature from ananthropological perspective. Drawing on various case studies, the issuebrings together contributions on how different actors – activists, scientists, police officers or the legal community – handle the environmental damagecaused by human activity or the threats such activity poses to animalspecies. How is the management of nature debated within the frameworkof legal constraints, and how are these constraints themselves subject tocontroversy? How do any tensions and conflicts that arise end up beingarbitrated by the court?
