Abstract

Optimal nutrition is essential for supporting athletes' health, performance, and long-term well-being. However, effective strategies to improve dietary behaviors among athletes remain limited. The purpose of this scoping review is to systematically map and synthesize the existing literature on sports nutrition interventions that incorporate cooking-based activities. This review will identify and examine published studies that utilize cooking activities as part of sports nutrition interventions. The review will describe key methodological characteristics, including study design, participant populations, intervention components, settings, and outcome measures. In addition, this review aims to propose and operationalize the concept of culinary sports nutrition (CSN) by evaluating how existing cooking-based sports nutrition interventions align with the recently established definition of culinary nutrition (CN) (Croxford et al., 2023). The expected outcomes of this scoping review include a comprehensive overview of cooking-based sports nutrition interventions, identification of methodological trends and gaps in the literature, and an assessment of alignment with the term CN. Collectively, these findings will support the conceptual development of CSN, inform future research directions, and guide the design of evidence-informed, cooking-based interventions in sports nutrition practice.
