El “chino” no es cochino: el imaginario del peligro amarillo en la producción hemerográfica mexicana (1886-1911)
Abstract
This paper analyses how in the mexican newspaper production between 1886 and 1911 in Mexico City was adopted and reinterpreted the Yellow Peril. Which produced a racist and xenophobic identity during nineteenth century in the mexican society; one that endures until the first decades of twenty-first century. This investigation is argued using cultural studies to explain identities, imaginaries and representation in illustrations and caricatures. In addition, Orientalism is also studied to expose how influential it was for the Yellow Peril. The results show that this imaginary created a stereotype of “Chinese” bodies in Mexico.
