Abstract

Human activity releases toxic heavy metals into water, threatening ecosystems and human health. Brewer’s spent grain was mechanochemically esterificated to improve its adsorption capacity. Adsorptionisotherms and fixed-bed adsorber showed high Pb(II) uptake and promising results for Cd(II) and Ni(II). Modification enhanced capacity but reduced selectivity and kinetics, indicating a changed mechanism.
