Francisco Julião y el socialismo uruguayo (1961-1964)
Abstract
In 1945, the Ligas Campesinas of Brazil were formed, which eventually became a very important movement of landless rural workers. In 1960, their protests and mobilisations demanding access to land were framed in the context of the Latin American Cold War. This article analyses the dissemination of the ideas proposed by Francisco Julião, leader of the Ligas Campesinas, in the early 1960s in Uruguay. Based on an analysis of the press, it shows how the Brazilian peasant leader was received by the militants of the Uruguayan Socialist Party. Finally, it reflects on the need to address the movements of landless workers on both sides of the border.
