El testimonio de Celestina. El oficio de la alcahuetería en tiempos de los Reyes Católicos

Through the approach of the literary genealogy of the go-between’s figure, judicial cases of siglos XIV and XV, particularly the character Celestina by Fernando de Rojas, this article analizes the tensions that the piece evidences regarding the profession of the go-between in the context of the Spain of the Catholic Monarchs. The urban enviroment, alongside the doubly marginal figure protagonism, the option for dialogue and the unstable condition of the text that evolves from comedy to tragicomedy represent a novel practice that challenges established hegemonic discourses.
