Abstract

Recently, the mitochondria situated SYNJ2BP has been identified as a mitochondrion – ER tether. However, the exact mechanism by which SYNJ2BP impacts ER Ca2+ still remains to be elucidated. Here, I report that SYNJ2BP regulates the uptake of Ca2+ into the ER. In concert with the neuron-enriched SYNJ2a, SYNJ2BP forms a tether with SERCA. Additionally, neurons with reduced availability of SYNJ2BP are less viable than control neurons. The result from this project emphasize the importance of the threeway complex in neurons.
