Impact of Sleep Deprivation on the Health and Performance of Nursing Healthcare Professionals: a systematic review.
Abstract
This study examines the relationship between sleep quality and physical and mental health outcomes in nursing professionals. Through a systematised bibliographic review of studies published in the last ten years, evidence is synthesised regarding the impact of sleep deprivation particularly related to night shifts and extended working hours on nurses’ quality of life, fatigue, professional performance, and patient safety. The findings highlight sleep deprivation as a significant occupational health risk in nursing, with implications for both healthcare workers and clinical practice.
