Impuesto sobre el patrimonio en el marco de la política fiscal y su efecto sobre el crecimiento económico en los municipios de Jalisco, México
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to examine the effect that the wealth tax has on economic growth at the municipal level in Jalisco, Mexico. Both the theory of second-generation fiscal federalism and the approach to the quality of public finances allow us to frame the proposed relationship. This was verified with a panel data model with information from 97 municipalities in Jalisco for the period 2010-2020. The results show the positive relationship between wealth tax collection and economic growth in the studied municipalities. This demonstrates the need for municipal governments to strengthen their public treasuries through programs that improve wealth tax collection in order to be more financially autonomous and, in this sense, acquire greater decisionmaking power to allocate freely available resources to productive projects that promote their local economy.
