Abstract

This research paper is aimed to investigate the impact of influencer culture on beauty standards and self-perception among young people in the digital age. The research question investigates how exposure to influencers affects young people's body image and self-esteem. It addresses the problem of potentially unrealistic and unattainable beauty standards promoted by social media influencers. The study integrates social comparison theory, cultivation theory, and media effects research. Employing a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative survey data with qualitative interviews, the research analyzes the relationship between influencer exposure, self- perception, and beauty ideals. The findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of the impact of digital media on youth and offer recommendations for promoting positive body image and media literacy in the digital age.
