A PRISMA Systematic Review of AI-Augmented Spatial Augmented Reality Systems for Manual Assembly in Operator 5.0 and Industry 5.0 Contexts
Abstract
This project preregisters a PRISMA 2020–guided systematic review examining AI-augmented Spatial Augmented Reality (SAR) systems designed to support manual assembly operations in Operator 5.0 and Industry 5.0 contexts. The review synthesizes research integrating SAR with computer vision, gesture tracking, cognitive state monitoring (EEG, gesture recognition, eye tracking), and adaptive human-in-the-loop control. The purpose is to classify technological approaches, evaluate their effectiveness for operator guidance and cognition, and identify challenges related to occlusion handling, latency, AI robustness, and industrial deployability. All screening and selection procedures will follow predefined eligibility criteria, and data extraction will capture SAR hardware characteristics, AI/ML methods, sensing modalities, adaptivity mechanisms, and technology readiness levels. Study quality will be assessed using MMAT 2018, and risk of bias in human-participant experiments will be evaluated using ROBINS-I. The expected outcome is a taxonomy of AI-enhanced SAR systems, a critical appraisal of evidence quality, and recommendations for future research and industrial adoption.
