ChatGPT in Academic Writing: A Descriptive Review on idea Generation and Writing Enhancement

This research aims to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) supports idea generation and writing quality in academic writing. Nowadays, many students and researchers use ChatGPT to help with ideas and writing specially in academic writing. A descriptive review approach was used in this research, past research studies reviewed and the review focused on published academic work. The literature was gathered from Google Scholar and researches related to AI and writing were selected. The findings show that AI helps with early idea generation, support brainstorming, improves writing flow, helps in organizing ideas and makes writing faster and easier. Despite these benefits, AI responses can be too general, and academic integrity can be affected. The research highlights the importance of teaching AI literacy, students should learn ethical AI use, teachers should guide AI integration, and AI should be used as a learning tool. In conclusion, AI is useful when used carefully, it should only support, not replace human thinking, and students need guidance on using AI.
