Abstract

Professional development in nursing is recognized as a key strategy to enhance quality of care, strengthen workforce retention, and support the sustainability of health systems. International organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) have emphasized the need for structured professional development models that support clinical progression, leadership development, and professional well-being. However, existing evidence remains heterogeneous in terms of conceptual frameworks, components, and levels of implementation, limiting comparability and contextual adaptation, particularly in Latin American institutional settings.
