Constraint Fragmentation Diagnostic (C.F.D.) (Social Thermodynamics)
Abstract
Description The Constraint Fragmentation Diagnostic (C.F.D.) is a system-level diagnostic instrument that evaluates the degree of fragmentation between declared constraints, enacted behaviors, and observed outcomes within an organized system. Fragmentation is treated as the primary structural driver of disorder. C.F.D. is descriptive, non-predictive, non-causal, and observer-invariant. It does not rely on physical thermodynamic analogies, infer intent, assign moral judgment, or prescribe intervention. It evaluates system coherence state only, using externally observable signals. Fragmentation is present when declared constraints no longer align with behavior and outcomes. Once fragmentation exists, disorder is amplified by interaction speed, confusion, and equity pressure; these act as amplifiers, not causes. High C.F.D. indicates dissipative system dynamics characterized by escalating corrective load, rule proliferation, and declining outcome alignment. Low C.F.D. indicates coherence-preserving system behavior with stable or decreasing corrective demands. C.F.D. operates downstream of alignment and transparency diagnostics and upstream of trajectory assessment.
