Abstract

Report on the ICARDA-DGF workshop highlights the kick-off of the TransforMED project, aimed at restoring 10,000 hectares of degraded rangelands in Tunisia. The event brought together key stakeholders, including government institutions, NGOs, and community representatives, to discuss agroforestry and silvopastoral systems as solutions for landscape restoration and sustainable livelihoods. Participants shared research findings and experiences, addressing challenges like land degradation, climate variability, and the need for improved stakeholder coordination. Successful initiatives, such as the Chahda site in Zaghouan, showcased effective integrated interventions. The workshop concluded with recommendations for strengthening community collaboration, enhancing seed production, promoting native species, and establishing inclusive governance mechanisms to advance sustainable development in Tunisia's silvopastoral systems.
