Abstract

**Reconstructing a Lost Highland Lake: Pipikoro, Sulawesi** This project focuses on reconstructing evidence of a lost ancient highland lake in the Pipikoro region of Central Sulawesi, a remote mountainous area within Wallacea. Highland lakes play a crucial role in regulating local climate, water availability, and biodiversity, yet many have disappeared without documentation, leaving gaps in our understanding of landscape and environmental history. Through direct field observations, elevation analysis, and basic GIS mapping, this project documents basin morphology, drainage patterns, and topographic thresholds that indicate the former presence of a standing body of water. Initial field evidence has already been identified, making this a timely effort to consolidate and visually communicate these findings. The immediate outcome of this project is a clear visual reconstruction in the form of maps, photographs, and field documentation that establish a physical framework for the paleo-lake. This foundation can later support broader studies on climate dynamics, ecosystem development, and human movement in Sulawesi’s highlands.
