Abstract

To balance X-linked gene dosage between sexes, one female X chromosome is inactivated, yet some genes escape silencing, leading to higher expression in women. This allele-specific multi-omics analysis in a polymorphic mouse model revealed a substantial increase in escape and chromatin accessibility during aging, particularly at distal chromosome regions. Age-specific escape of disease-relevant genes lays the groundwork for future research on sex bias in age-related diseases.
