A218: Efficacy of Kinesio Tape for Plantar Fasciitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Abstract
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain in adults and is a very common musculoskeletal system disorder. The incidence of plantar fasciitis is relatively high among sports enthusiasts, especially those involved in high-intensity, high-impact sports. Kinesio tape has the functions of relieving pain, correcting muscle function, and increasing body sensation. Currently, kinesio tape has been gradually applied to the treatment of the disease, but its effectiveness is unclear. The aim of this review is to assess how kinesio tape interventions affect pain and ankle and foot function in patients with plantar fasciitis. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, Ebsco, Sinomed, CNKI, WangFang, VIP, and ClinicalTrials.gov were consulted from inception to April 2024, with the inclusion of randomized controlled trials. The experimental data were meta-analyzed using RevMan 5.3. The outcomes include pain and function of the ankles and feet. Result: The meta-analysis included seven studies of a total of 356 p. Results showed significant differences in kinesio tape performance in pain improvement (SMD = -0.90, 95% CI: -1.49, -0.31, P = .003) and in ankles and foot function improvement (SMD = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.48, 0.99, P < .001) in patients with plantar fasciitis compared to the control group. For patients with plantar fasciitis, kinesio tape treatment is an effective method. It has significant advantages in reducing pain and improving ankle and foot function.
