Abstract

The purpose of this project is perform a utility study of a low-cost sterile, single-use syringe that can sense low versus high pressure during central venous catheter placement in the operating room, and, therefore, prevent the clinician from placing the catheter into the artery instead of the vein. Patients included in this study will be undergoing a central venous catheter procedure as part of their clinical care. As part of the procedure, the anesthesia provider will measure pressure with a sterile, single-use syringe that can sense low versus high pressure instead of a more expensive compact pressure transducer device, which is standard of care at our institution.
