Transmission Follows Attention: A Quantitative Analysis of Directional Asymmetry in Crisis Apparition Reports
Abstract
Quantitative analysis of 674 crisis apparition cases from two Victorian datasets (Phantasms of the Living 1886, Census of Hallucinations 1894). After strict filtering for timestamp verification, parent-child cases show complete directional asymmetry: 10 cases of children perceiving dying parents, 0 cases of parents perceiving dying children (p=0.001). Raw data shows 5.9:1 ratio. We propose the Attention Model: transmission follows the dying person's habitual attention, not relationship category. In documented cases, 90% of perceivers match the dying person's attention target. The Andre anomaly (dying child perceived by 7 neighbors and a dog, but not his mother at the bedside) supports location-targeting over attachment-targeting. Distance shows no effect. Consciousness at death not required.
