Battery cycling station : programmable electronic load in a charging station
Abstract
This B.Sc. thesis documents a battery cycling station for Össur’s Power knee battery. It builds on an in-house charging station by adding an electronic load, enabling repeated charge/discharge cycles with defined current profiles. After prototyping, the design uses a DAC and op-amp voltage followers to drive MOSFET gates. The completed station runs a state-machine controller that automatically switches between charging and discharging. Using closed-loop control, it regulates a set current up to 1.5 A, supports constant-current cycling, and can execute custom current profiles for repeatable battery testing.
