EFEKTIVITAS PSIKOEDUKASI DALAM MENURUNKAN HOPELESSNESS PADA SISWA
Abstract
Hopelessness is a psychological condition frequently experienced by students and has been associated with decreased motivation, low academic performance, and poor psychological well- being. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to feelings of hopelessness due to academic pressure, social challenges, and developmental transitions. Previous studies have emphasized the importance of psychoeducation as an effective psychological intervention to improve mental health literacy and help adolescents develop adaptive coping strategies (Galuh Hermawan & Purnomosidi, 2025). Psychoeducation provides structured information and practical skills that enable students to recognize negative thought patterns, regulate emotions, and build more positive future expectations. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of psychoeducation in reducing hopelessness among high school students. A quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest method was applied. The participants consisted of 35 students who were identified as having moderate levels of hopelessness. The intervention involved psychoeducational sessions focusing on cognitive restructuring, emotional regulation, and self-reflection. Data analysis using a paired sample t-test showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (t = -2.376, p = .023 < .05), indicating a meaningful reduction in hopelessness after the psychoeducation program. The effect size analysis also demonstrated a moderate impact (Cohen’s d = -0.402). These results confirm that psychoeducation is effective in reducing hopelessness among students and can be implemented as a preventive mental health program in schools. Therefore, psychoeducation is recommended as a practical and evidence-based intervention to enhance students’ psychological resilience and well-being.
