Abstract

Chapter 2: The Doom Loop of Modern Systems examines why organizational, institutional, and technological systems repeatedly fail despite good intentions, reforms, and increasing sophistication. The chapter introduces the doom loop as a structural phenomenon driven by interpretive drift, information asymmetry, and ethical misalignment rather than individual incompetence or motivation. By tracing how breakdown becomes self-reinforcing, the chapter clarifies why collapse persists, why it is often misdiagnosed, and why conventional fixes repeatedly fail. This chapter provides the structural groundwork for understanding how ethical erosion, cognitive overload, and leadership distortion interact to sustain systemic failure, and prepares the reader for the corrective frameworks introduced in subsequent chapters.
