Abstract
In vitreoretinal surgeries, surgeons look through microscopes to navigate surgical tools towards tissues. However, perspective projection impedes extracting 3D object-tool positions from 2D images and causes tissue-damaging risk. This thesis uses intraocular illumination and shadow to establish a framework of surgical automation from monitoring to tool navigation, compatible with current operating rooms.
